LCD flat panel televisions have come wildly popular in a short span of time. If you have already purchased or are planning on purchasing one of these awesome flat panel TVs you may be wondering how you're going to go about mounting it on the wall.
When planning this out there are five things you need to consider:
1.) How large is the television? When you're looking at wall mounts the first thing you'll notice is that there are different sizes for different TVs. There's also a huge weight difference between a 22 inch LCD TV and a 50 inch one. For a larger TV mounting hardware will need to connect to multiple studs as opposed to just one.
2.) What type of wall do you intend to mount on? There are many kinds that can handle an flat panel TV. The most common wall type has wood studding in it. A stud finder will be necessary to locate the center of the studs you intend to mount the flat panel on. Another common wall type is solid concrete or a cinder block wall, a TV can be mounted on these as well. However it will require concrete anchors in order to ensure the TV is securely connected.
2.) What wall mount should you use? There is a wide selection of wall mounts on the market.
A fixed wall mount is the plainest variety. With this type ones the TV is mounted it won't be able to be moved, so make sure it's exactly where you want it to be.
A tilting mount allows for more flexibility and you can change the angle of the TV to your liking at any given time. A tilting wall mount will typically rotate 5 degrees up and 15 down. This type of wall mount is ideal for home theaters or family room settings.
There are also arm wall mounts. These are more useful for smaller sized LCD flat panels. With this style of mount your TV can be flat against the wall but also be pulled out up to a foot, or more, from the wall and seen from several angles and locations within the room. Most arm mounts also tilt, turn, and swivel, sometimes these are called "articulating arm mounts".
4.) Where will the cables be stored? You need to take care in planning how the TV cables will be placed with the rest of your home theater wires and devices. Do not try to run the power cord through a wall, many TVs come with receptacles that can be placed behind the television. Many wall mounts also have places for the cables built right into them to keep the area clean and the cables organized.
5.) Where is the best location to mount the TV? You should carefully consider the perfect location for your flat panel. You'll want to place the TV snugly within the room's decor, many people decide to mount the TV above objects like a fireplace. For the best viewing experience you'll want to make sure that the center of the television is slightly above where your eye level will be when viewing.
A good installation of a high end LCD wall mount can make your TV viewing comfortable and really add to your home's atmosphere.
